What a finish! Ruler On Ice comes out of nowhere to win the Belmont Stakes. Shackleford, the Preakness winner had a good start, but couldn't keep up to speed over the entire mile and a half track. Animal Kingdom, winner of the Kentucky Derby, wasn't really a factor. Ruler On Ice, a 24-1 underdog, made a strong move at the end to seal the victory. There were horrible muddy conditions on the track. Seriously, I think the announcers broke the record for how many times you can say "sloppy track" during one broadcast. The best named horse yesterday was Stay Thirsty. The most interesting horse in the world came in second place. Brilliant Speed came in third. I'm glad to see such good showings for the underdog horses, but really I want to see a horse come up and dominate like Barbarro and Big Brown. Will we see a triple crown winner next year? I'm guessing no.
